Shifting our focus in 2015 from music, voiceover, and sports licensing projects, this family-owned business offers consulting services concentrated in organizational equity assessment, nonprofit capacity building, and culturally responsive education. In recent years, Kairo Communications has provided services to the Milwaukee County Department of Health and Human Services, the City of Milwaukee Collaborative Community Committee, and the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee’s African Diaspora Council.

As a facilitating leader at Milwaukee Film, responsible for the organization’s integrated marketing, communication, content, and event capacities, I oversee the creation, strategy, and execution of initiatives supporting the brand and its programs and properties. My duties include oversight of the Marketing, Strategic Partnerships, Cultures & Communities, Membership, and Development teams, implementing data-informed business and media strategies, and instilling an entrepreneurial approach to new corporate partners.

I established the Cultures & Communities initiative at Milwaukee Film in 2019 to broaden the organization’s reach to communities of color and evolve the organization’s film and event programming throughout the calendar year—developing the brand into a powerful tool for targeted outreach. As the program director, I developed year-round cultural programming that increased the organization’s brand visibility in communities of color and established multiple business lines over 16 months, resulting in the exponential growth of funding opportunities. Perhaps my proudest moments were the creation of the annual Minority Health Film Festival in 2019 (renamed Cultures & Communities Festival in 2021), a new revenue stream for Milwaukee Film that outperforms signature festival in sponsorship revenue, and the Engage & Activate program in 2020, a soft skills training, and workplace DEI program for corporate partners responsible for 20% of total corporate fund development in 2022.

The Black Lens film program at Milwaukee Film is an anchor cultural program in Milwaukee and leading presenter of African American cinema nationally. As program director, Co-founding the program in 2014, I developed a membership program and other fund development opportunities through community and corporate engagement. I also recruited and built a team of local social influencers to create word-of-mouth campaigns. As the director, I managed staff, budgets, programming, marketing, community outreach, business partnerships, and guest services.

Working collaboratively with Dr. Donte McFadden, I co-founded the Black Lens film program at Milwaukee Film in 2014, an anchor cultural program in Milwaukee, and a nationally leading presenter of African American cinema.
