Gerd joined the KPMG Risk Consulting Advisory Services Team as a Senior Manager in October 2018, to provide regulatory advice and assistance to banks and financial institutions operating in or from Malta.As a Senior Manager in the Risk Consulting Advisory Services Team he has delivered due diligence solutions from a regulatory perspective to major banking clients across different jurisdictions, provided advice on the design of the compliance and risk functions and assistance with the design and implementation to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, including gap analysis approaches.Gerd’s engagement portfolio has led him to work at the heart of the risk strategy within a number of financial players, ranging from Significant Institutions under the SSM framework to international payment service providers, by helping them throughout the process of considering strategic options, implementing bespoke risk appetite frameworks and their subsequent articulation and monitoring processes.He has also been involved in licensing projects by assisting customers in creating new policies, procedures and processes, including internal controls, needed prior to commencing or during the course of operations.Gerd previously worked for Raiffeisen Bank Albania (RBAL), a subsidiary of Austria’s second largest bank Raiffeisen Bank International AG (RBI), as a team leader for Group Regulatory Provisioning and Risk Weighted Assets Reporting. During his 7 years spent at RBAL, Gerd has gained extensive experience in both traded and non- traded risk management regulations and practices (particularly for the CRD IV package, PSD II, BRRD, ICAAP and ILAAP), and the independent development and validation of risk models. He was the SPOC for the Board of Directors (BoD), Auditors and Regulators, during the onsite inspections by both the Bank of Albania (BoA) and the Austrian Financial Banking Authority (FMA), on risk weighted assets, capital adequacy, loan loss provisioning related matters and formed actively part of the team which successfully obtained the approval to use the Internal Rating Based Approach to calculate capital requirements. He also was responsible for coordinating stress testing activities and recovery plans as well as advising the BoD on the risk appetite statement at bank level.
