My responsibilities included the establishment of myself as a resident engineer to provide ongoing support for the Automation Engineering Team at Fonterra’s Clandeboye site and to acquire, plan and execute automation projects on site. I was included on Fonterra’s callout roster to provide after hours plant wide support for their operators and maintenance staff (approx. 170 PLC’s and 50 HMI’s in a 24/7 food manufacturing environment).After receiving several inquiries from Dürr Korea I was asked by the automation manager to keep working with Dürr as well to expand their customer base and I completed two projects (programming and commissioning of several interior and exterior paint robots) for Dürr Korea at two Hyundai sites in Korea.

Responsibility for a small team (4-6 persons) of local engineers providing engineering support and service for Dürr’s local customers. Acquiring smaller local projects (modifications of existing machinery and equipment), Initially all software engineering and commissioning was done externally under our supervision, however through ongoing training I prepared the team to be able to do this in-house with our own staff, leaving only mechanical fabrication and installation to external contractors. Consequently this allowed us to bid for our share of the projects awarded to Dürr Systems Germany and we succeeded in receiving contracts for software development, commissioning and startup assistance from Dürr Systems Germany for projects in South-Korea and in Malaysia. Being able to carry out work in Korea with local engineers in return improved communication between Dürr staff and the customers and led to a greater customer satisfaction as well due to shorter response times and lower costs.
