Gerhard Keyter is a civil engineer who has specialized in geotechnics in civil engineering and mining. He has been involved in the design of open pit mines, railway cuttings, and other surface excavations as well as in the design of civil engineering tunnels, large hydro power caverns, mine tunnels and underground mining excavations over the past 28 years. He has been involved in projects located in South Africa, Botswana, Burkina Faso, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ghana, Guinea, Lesotho, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe, as well as in projects located in Australia, Brazil, Chile, China, India, Panama and Russia.Gerhard was part of the BCJV design team that carried out the detailed design of the underground works at ESKOM’s Ingula Pumped Storage Scheme in South Africa. In 2009, he co-founded GeoStable, working as an independent geotechnical consultant, and gained useful experience in the geotechnical aspects of a number of underground massive mining methods including scraper drift block caving, trackless block caving, sublevel caving and front caving while working as Consulting Geotechnical Engineer for DiamondCorp’s Lace Diamond Mines and for Petra Diamonds’ Finsch, Koffiefontein and Kimberley Underground Mines.Gerhard joined Aurecon as an associate in June 2016 and was seconded to MSKC's project office in Maseru where he worked on the design of Phase II of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project, which is being constructed to augment water supply to Gauteng in South Africa. He led the engineering team involved in the design of the Polihali Diversion Tunnels, and worked as senior geotechnical engineer on the design of the Polihali Transfer Tunnel, before joining SRK Consulting in 2019.Gerhard has been working as geotechnical consultant and design engineer in the civil geotechnical and mining rock engineering fields since 1993.Specialities: Rock engineering in civil engineering and mining.
