This gene has recently been discovered and its function focuses on the efflux of important antibiotics such as Fluoroquinolones and Ethidium Bromide. The purpose of our project is to successfully clone this gene into Staph, which has never occurred naturally before, to develop a potential target for antibiotic drug discovery in reducing the gene's function and expression.

□ Under Dr. Todd Auman of the Institute of Pharmacogenomics and Individualized Therapy of UNC, the purpose of our research was to identify what transmutations occurred in strains that lead to disease, so that we can create a pharmacotherapy to combat this. □ Involved DNA human assaying and rigorous spreadsheet analysis in determining possible gene mutation loci□ Required proficiency in Centrifugation, Water baths, and independently formulating lab experiments in DNA sampling□ Utilized proper laboratory protocol and procedure while conducting experiments, and logged daily activities and observations within a lab manual□ Colorectal cancer research has done very little in identifying the particular causes for how this disease generates, hence the purpose of my assistance with this research.
