General ManagerMicrosoft Jul 2011 - Jan 2014BellevueGeneral Manager of User Centric Advertising - Online Services Division (July 2011 - Jan 2014)Chartered with re-inventing Display Advertising to make it ultra-personalized. We sought to define a unique demographic that was temporally relevant for each single person. The results were amazing. 'Big Data' is very effective at predicting the schedule, interests and behaviors of individuals.Removing waste (that generally annoys the Consumer) from the various sales and marketing functions increases profits and Consumer satisfaction while lower the purchase price for the Consumer. This was a lot of fun. -
General ManagerMicrosoft Jan 2010 - Jun 2011General Manager of Program Management- Bing Mobile - Online Services Division (Jan 2010 - 2011)Wow... online services... being able to update experiences to mobile customers without waiting for commercialization, hardware deployment, etc. This has been a great deal of fun. I inherited a kernel of a team and had the joy of watching the best PM team I have ever worked with evolve around me. -
General ManagerMicrosoft Dec 2008 - Jan 2010General Manager of Commercialization, Emerging Markets, and (eventually) Windows Mobile - Mobile Communication Business - Mobile Device Strategy and CommercializationI love being back at Microsoft. It has always been an amazing company to work for. I had a great time the first time I worked here and though we both have changed and grown a lot, I believe the best days are still ahead. Who says you can't go home.During the first six months I was back, I helped Samsung ship Windows Mobile devices and prepare their development team for Windows Phone 7. I enjoyed helping Microsoft learn about, and formalize, the vagaries of commercializing handsets for mass market deployment.I inherited Windows Mobile 6.5 for its 'end of life' release. It was fun to re-invigorate the team and tie up the various loose ends the code base had accumulated over its long life span. Together we eliminated the need for a stylus (finally) making the UX completely 'fat finger' friendly. The MTTF went up 900% and battery life improved substantially. I wish the Windows Mobile team and I would have got to spend more time together, but it was a great six months. We ended the WM 6.5.3 process with a compelling emerging market product that, like many product concepts in a big company, ended up on the cutting room floor. It happens... but we did have a $100 touch screen smart phone... which was a joy to make. -
Founder And Special Consultant To The CeoCatalytic Software Mar 2007 - Feb 2009Co-founded the company and was the Interim CEO in 2000. Left the company in 2001 to be the Founder and CEO of Wildseed Ltd.Re-joined the company in 2007 to provide the Executive Management depth required to take it to the next level. The Company has grown on every measurable metric including the bottom line since then.I am delighted that Swain Porter and the rest of the Catalytic management team has concluded a sale of both the real estate assets and media company outsourcing practice. Very cool to see them take this to the next level. -
Svp Wireless Product DevelopmentAol Aug 2005 - Mar 2007Managed all wireless product development for AOL. The Tegic group, which ships its software on hundreds of millions of phones a year, shipped two new products and started developing its first new line of business after five years of incremental bug fixes to the original product AOL had acquired. The Wildseed group refactored their phone product into a wirelessly connected media player to support AOL Music Now and AOL Video, which has won a place on many 'Top Ten' lists for new devices.AOL Mobile Instant Messaging doubled its revenue and broadened its integration with the rest of AOL. AOLmobile.com was re-vitalized and re-launched under budget.Site manager of the Seattle Office. -
