A specialized department for the development of artistic, creative and social hubs in Amsterdam in order to create affordable housing for artists and further the development the creative industry and gentrification within the city. I interned at this department for 6 months and supported the project managers. I was part of temporary rental negotiations with property owners, project developers and city officials of other city departments. But the part that interested me the most within my internship was the support we offered small groups of creative entrepreneurs who wanted to start a hub with city funding. We offered them help in setting up realistic and manageable business plans for their ventures and mediated between the artistic groups and possible future landlords. Among these two most important tasks, I was also editor of two of their printed newsletters and also independently organised an educational field trip for the department’s closest clients, colleges and others within their network to get a closer look at ‘hub related policies’ of other cities within The Netherlands.

During my internship at the City of Amsterdam I also independently conducted and internal audit at the City of Amsterdam’s department for creative hubs in the city. The aim was to investigate its internal organisational structure and means of organisation to find possible dangers or improvement. I then advised on the found possible dangers and improvement and handed them my findings in writing including possible grounded theories based on which improvement could be implemented and a step by step plan to reduce these specific dangers.
