Project Objectives:• Design and implement the port of a legacy multi-tenant SaaS application from VB6/Windows-Forms/Citrix to modern technologies. • Target multiple form factors including phones, tablets, laptops and desktops.• Produce functional proof of concept• Application must be fully operable while offline.• Application framework must serve as the basis for the port of an even larger multi-tenant SaaS application.• Reuse existing Entity Framework models and business logic code where it makes sense.• ADA compliance.• Redesign features to improve usability.Architecture:• Responsive, offline capable “SPA” (single page application) over a REST backend.• Server: Load balanced- ASP.NET Web API and Breeze over Entity Framework and SQL Server.Other technologies used:o Unity dependency injection.o AppFabric distributed caching layer.• Client: written in TypeScript (a typed superset of JavaScript that compiles to plain JavaScript), HTML and CSS.Frameworks used:o Durandal: single page application frameworko RequireJS: modular design/dependency injectiono Breeze.js: data layero Knockout.js: MVVM/data-binding frameworko Q: organizing and composing async codeo Bootstrap: responsive UI frameworko JQuery: needs no introductiono Moment.js: date manipulation libraryAgile development:• Small development team (two developers).• Produced project plan dividing work into multiple short sprints.• Weekly releases to Product Management and customer focus group users, integrating feedback after each cycle.• Collaboration with QA including feature presentation meetings, producing reference videos and feature documentation.
