About Riley Germanis

Effective learning happens in classrooms where students equitably engage in content conversations. Rigorous secondary mathematics happens when teachers provide cognitively demanding tasks and structure student discourse so all students benefit from the learning process. Through the work as a Knowles Teacher Initiative Teaching Fellow and continued professional development opportunities, I understand the rich dynamics between a cognitively demanding curriculum, rich student discourse, opportunities for student and teacher leadership and culturally competent classroom activities.Math education is complex and requires many parts to come together. Professional development, practitioner inquiry and teacher/department autonomy contribute to the success in classrooms and schools. My goal as an educator is to eliminate math-phobia by empowering students to make connections between concepts and persevere through rich task based learning opportunities. Doing so increases access to learning opportunities and improves learning outcomes.

Listed skills include Critical Thinking, Student Affairs, Teamwork, Highly Motivated Self Starter, and 12 others.
