Adjunct Instructor And Curriculum Developer

Current
Polytech Adult Education

Dover, Delaware, United States

Develop curriculum, labs and teach PLC classes. The classes include teaching students what a PLC is, why PLCs are used, how to wire field device to them, how to program them, as well as more advanced topics. I primarily teach students how to program Micro800 PLCs using CCW but I’ve also taught Rslogix 500 for Micrologix 1000s and Rslogix 5000 for CompactLogix.Spec out equipment to buy, to have a more rounded PLC program.Added more equipment to teach the students to not only program the PLC but also wire pushbuttons, sensors, pilot light, etc. and be able to test out their programs in an easier manner.Flashed HMIs, searched Rockwell’s knowledge base multiple times to get communication with the PLC, and designed screens to use the HMI to test out the students PLC programs.Upcoming projects include cleaning up the wiring on the PLCs to make it easier for students to wire field devices to. Expanding the trainers to include more buttons and switches. Since navigating networked PLCs is an important skill for students to learn, I’m adding a network to network all the PLCs and VFDs together. I’m also learning several new software packages and will teach them to other instructors in the fall.

As the one in charge of the sound room, my role is to train people and get them up to speed, oversee 12+ people to cover all our services, troubleshoot problems that come up usually right before an event happens, make tech and work flow improvements. Constantly updating and improving the sound system and work flow. Some projects include installing a WiFi bridge to make having services outside doable, pier-to-pier LAN to control the sound board in more than one location, and eventually adding in ear monitors and all the tech changes needed to make that happen. Our church has many services and events through the year, including graduations, VBS, women's meetings, Spanish services, conferences, band practice, outdoor services and funerals.

Associate Electrical Engineer

• Studied the 3 pack machines in order to prepare to do a full controls upgrade on them. Studied the prints and the machines, located all the sensors, prox switches, solenoids, servos, motors, cameras, contactors, MCRs, etc...in order to determine whether each was still being used or not. Studied the RSLogix 5 and RSLogix 500 programs to determine the function of each of the 1000+ inputs and outputs on the 3 machines. Compared and contrasted the differences between the 3 machines to determine what machine functions were important to include on all the machines controls upgrades.• Collaborated to replace 2 servos with 2 air cylinders to close a flap on a tampon carton on the high speed cartoner. Wrote the logic for the ControlLogix PLC and added CAM window access on the HMI so the mechanic could set the window on the bucket chain servo when the air cylinders are to open and close. Also added several messages to the HMI to indicate why the machine shutdown if the air cylinders didn’t extend or retract properly. Debugged it to make it work properly.• Replaced the obsolete main DC motor and motor controller with a 25HP AC motor and Powerfex 525 drive on 6 tampon forming machines. Wrote the PLC program, changed all the necessary parameters on the Powerflex VFD and changed the messages on the Wonderware HMI to reflect the changes made on the machine. Added a Pilz device and wired the Powerflex for safe mode.• Worked with Ignition software to configure thousands of tags for the new plant wide data collection system. Collected real-time plant data from a remote location. Collected all the production, scrap, and maintenance data from 33 machines, did the research for 7 more machines.• Supported production, went on etech calls to learn as much about how the machines worked as possible. Was in my role long enough to fix the machines or was instrumental in assisting the etechs fix machines.
