I am psychiatrist and philosopher and currently Director of Residency Training at GGzE (Eindhoven, NL). As former holder of the (endowed) Dooyeweerd chair (Faculty of Humanities Vrije Universiteit) and emeritus professor of Philosophy of Neuroscience (Amsterdam UMC) my research has and will be focused on issues at the interface between philosophy, psychiatry, cognitive neuroscience, society, ethics, and religion.As scientific advisor and member of the team of Redesigning Psychiatry I am interested in sustainable system change in mental healthcareSpecialties: - philosophy of psychiatry and the neurosciences- analysis of medicine and psychiatry as normative practices; including the concept of professionalism - conceptualization of psychopathology with a recent focus on self-illness ambiguity- the I-self relationship as entrance to issues in moral psychology- existential issues in psychiatry, psychotherapy and society- Christian philosophy in the Reformed (i.e., Dooyeweerdian) tradition
