In this industrial driven research project for Philips, I attained new knowledge for product manufacturing. State of the art measurement techniques were used to characterize material behaviour during the product manufacturing process. Focus on key process issues as: cold forming, heat treatment, surface modification and corrosion resistance.» Acquired insights are applied to optimize the manufacturing process and fabricate robust products.» Developing a digital twin for the forming of metal parts» Characterizing and optimizing heat treatment of metal parts for strengthening and corrosion resistance.» The scientific work resulted in 6 peer reviewed publications.

Providing lectures and invited talks at national and international conferences.

In this work I developed a material model for the behaviour of steel during forming and heat treatment. I integrated this model in FEM code and was able to predict shape change of precise metallic components during manufacturing. The model contributed to a better understanding of the component behaviour. The insights are now used to improve the component manufacturing process. Results published in a peer reviewed journal, connecting the fields of material science, digital twin and product design.
