Regularly traveled internationally to meet directly with chipmakers, country presidents and account managers and constantly renewed the “field perspective” within corporate headquarters. Responsible for review and approval of all chipmaker commercials deals. Established deal review template and closer interaction with global regional account teams. Member of the product portfolio androadmap committee, which determined each quarter which products in which to invest engineering resources. Brought sharper company-wide focus onto Asian and memory chipmakers. Chaired monthly business review on worldwide status of all chipmaker accounts with executive management including the CEO, COO, and CFO. Held dual program and product manager role for the pre-production development of an extreme ultraviolet (EUV) light source to support Leading edge semiconductor lithography. Drove effort to select the correct long-term technology path, which included close involvement with senior scientists and the CTO. Established core engineering team, set program scope, negotiated deals with critical suppliers, created overall EUV business and technology strategy, managed budget. Led customer review meetings to discuss program milestones and roadmap alignment.Member of the negotiation team which secured $20 million in R&D funding from Intel Corporation. Managed DARPA contract interface and execution. Lead team to draft funding grant proposals. Led negotiation teams to investigate and acquire critical intellectual property. Hired and managed industry consultants to evaluate potential new technology directions.

End-to-end product owner of company’s flagship 193 nm lithography laser light source. Lead all aspects of the product with direct accountability to the executive management team, including the CEO and COO. Managed a cross-functional team of more than 60 people across all disciplines and a budget exceeding $18 million to develop the world’s first 4 kHz, argon fluoride excimer laser to enable leading-edge (90 nm) semiconductor manufacturing. Product achieved 95% market share against two other direct competitors enabling the 90 nm lithography production ramp, worldwide. Piloted corporate stage-gate product development process (PDP). Shipped more than 125 units to the field with an ASP approaching $1 million.

Developed joint development program to work more closely with chipmakers to better understand the value of excimer laser light sources on the lithography and greater semiconductor processes. Created detailed market analysis of 157 nm technology which led to creation of exploratory development program. Led 157 nm development team (10-person) and delivered prototype light sources to the market for early 157 nm lithography evaluation. Presented invited talk on 157 nm sources at Semicon Japan 1999.

Senior Optical Systems Engineer for a major manufacturer of deep ultraviolet (DUV) optical lithography tools for semiconductor chip manufacturing. Project manager in charge of materials and optics development for a 193 nm lithography program. Acted as primary interface with key materials vendors and industry representatives to further enhance the state-of-the-art in optical materials (CaF2) required for next generation semiconductor lithography tools. Established an excimer laser damage test and evaluation program of bulk materials and thin film coatings for 193 nm optical lithography. Implemented development of ion-assist deposited (IAD) optical coatings coupled with electron beam evaporation. Supervised all aspects of process development for these coatings and their transition to the production environment.

Greenbelt, Maryland

Co-investigator in low-temperature extreme ultraviolet optical coatings at an internationally recognized optics research laboratory. Co-wrote research proposal for a 3-year program for application of deposited carbide thin films to space-based optical instruments. Responsibilities entailed all aspects of laboratory research including selection of candidate materials and deposition method (ion beam, ion assisted deposition, e-beam, etc), design of experiments, modifications and troubleshooting of equipment, analytical measurements, analysis of experimental data, and publication of technical results. Designed and manufactured innovative multilayer reflectance coatings for an ultraviolet solar-viewing flight experiment. Cultivated partnerships with industry in the development of state-of-the artCVD (chemically-vapor-deposited) diamond mirror technology.Contributed to numerous flight programs including COSTAR (Hubble repair mission) and UVIS instrument on Cassini.
