The Youth Development Foundation is a space where our young adults will feel safe and will find the right support to help focus on improving their life skills and knowledge.We provide a structured community inclusive program incorporating social skills, customised training, mentoring/coaching, youth support and vocational education to support identified “at risk” young people, regain a sense of their own self-worth, respect and improve lives.We offer a realistic work experience environment, where real skills and knowledge, on a live operating site, are learnt. We provide opportunities for marketing our young people to real employers, with real employment opportunities. EOQ deliver a holistic employment program developed to specifically target youth, long term unemployed and disadvantaged jobseekers. By formulating a structure of career advice, life experience, relevant foundation qualifications, hands on experience and realistic employer expectations we have been assisting young people overcome major barriers into gainful employment. Participants gain accredited qualifications, new skills, current work experience and job search training in a safe and encouraging local community environment, to help them re-enter the workforce. During the initial ‘Get Ready’ phase, EOQ staff undertake job-ready assessments that look at current skills, experience and day-to-day routines to identify vocational and non-vocational barriers to employment. This phase is also used to formulate group and individual participant action/training plans.Accredited Training throughout our programs give participants the ‘pieces of paper’ that they need to be considered for employment. They undertake some components of the training in a classroom and then attend on site to gain ‘Hands On’ Experience to show employers they are capable and confident. Participants gain real life experience working on various projects. EOQ also incorporates Team Building Activities designed to maintain engagement, a positive attitude and identify skills deficits, individual strengths and weaknesses and other group or peer support issues that may impact on their career choices or employment prospects.The final phase is Ongoing Mentoring & Marketing Support. This is a key focus throughout the program and participants are reminded that EOQ has a great deal of support from local employers prepared to offer a range of employment and work experience opportunities. Participants are marketed directly to local employers and have access to additional support with EOQ upon completion. This includes unlimited access to their drop in centre and extensive community referral networks.
