Gerry Lang, is a Chicago based artist, and a citizen of the Chowanoke Nation, and of Meherrin, and mixed European decent. He is a Visual Story Teller, and educator, whose studio work is devoted to “Quantum Memory” images, and terra cotta and porcelain “Dream” and “Prayer Bowls.” It’s all centered around identity and re-remembering his Native heritage, and what that means in contemporary society. These works evoke his inner and outer reality, his connection to landscape, deep space and the infinite terrain of Dream Time. Gerry's murals in acrylic, bricolage, and ceramic and broken tile, can be seen around Chicago. He also creates personal adornments in silver and gold.

Creating personal adornments in silver, gold and platinum, precious and semiprecious gem stones. I especially enjoy co-creating custom rings for wedding and commitment ceremonies.

My ceramic work, in porcelain and terra cotta, seeks an accord between Western aesthetic and Native American Spirituality. Some of these works are being used by a Water Pourer in Sweat Lodges, toning by a spiritual healer, and to promote Dreaming. They have also been used as tiles to beautify the entrance way to a gallery, and includes ceramic sculpture, ceramic elements in murals, and one of kind ceramic objects

This program included the exhibition "Chrysalis Crisalida" at Yollocalli Art Reach Gallery, and culminated with the designing and creation of "Butterfly Transformada" a bricolage mural at John Hancock High School, Chicago Illinois,

My tenure with ASM, includes teaching teen apprentices the art of mural painting, mosaic and bricolage. Projects are located at Kelvyn Park High School, Chicago... "The Music We Make," "The Seeds To Success," "Carlos Cortez," "Cesar Chaves," "Lori Pestewa," and others. I am currently working at John Hancock High School, creating bricolages.

I worked with Robert E. Paige, fiber artist, creating silk banners with teens, in a summer project called "Conversations In Peace." These works accompanied the exhibition "The African Presence In Mexico." This exhibition was created by The National Museum Of Mexican Art, and after a world tour, returned to Chicago, in a showing at the DuSable Museum.

I have created murals in acrylic, ceramic and broken tile and bricolage... and conducted workshops with Chicago Public Art Group. The most recent bricolage is "Hopes and Dreams ’08," 67’x21’, in Chicago, depicting a society where children of all races are free to play with out fear. Project funded by After School Matters, Garfield Park Conservatory, Chicago Cultural Center and others..

Artist in Residence: Facilitate the design and creation of two 4 x 7.5 foot ceramic and broken tile murals entitled Oswego/Oswega and install in entrance of school.
