I was invited to a 6-month temporary full time position at the world renowned LRC at RPI to share my commercial sector insights and technical knowledge on solid state lighting and lighting controls for integration into ongoing and planned activities at the center and to perform research on contemporary color tunable LED lighting products.Projects & Responsibilities:• Lead investigator on development of a measurement method for color tunable LED systems.• Responsible for defining laboratory and curriculum requirements for networked lighting and control systems architecture (aka: Smart Lighting Systems)

I was responsible for the development of all system level product solutions as well as the global applications engineering resources of the company. The system level products include Integrated Smart Lighting (ISM) controls for LED lighting, high efficiency miniaturized integrated driver solutions, advanced color tuning solutions and street light solution modules. The applications laboratory that I created from the ground up is a fully accredited for LM-79 and LM-82 testing of solid state luminaires and is recognized by the EPA for energy star testing of solid state luminaires. That laboratory is equipped for far field gonio-photometer and gonio-spectrometer measurements and integrated sphere-spectrometer measurements of luminaires and lightsources. To assist in new product development, the laboratory also has the capability for near field gonio-photometer and gonio-spectrometer measurement of light sources enabling precise design rule development for advanced solid state light sources to address narrow beam applications and application with stringent color uniformity control. In addition to the photometric capability, the laboratory has thermal analysis capability via IR thermography and thermocouple measurement methods, as well as full CFD simulation capability as a predictive tool of system thermal performance and is capable performing full electrical measurement and analysis of power supply performance and safety testing. Also reporting into the organization I oversaw were the customer facing Field Applications Engineers, who brought the full weight and resources of the laboratory and the Applications Engineers working there to enable successful design wins using Bridgelux light sources with our luminaire manufacturing customers around the world. The laboratory also supported the QA department by providing system level forensic analysis of customer field failures.

OKI SEMICONDUCTOR – Sunnyvale, CAA North American subsidiary of Oki Electric in Japan, Oki develops and manufactures a broad line of integrated circuits targeted to high volume consumer and commercial applications. I was responsible for product definition, marketing and sales activity in North and South America. The products I had marketing responsibility for included ARM core based application specific MCUs, the support tools for these MCUs and developing and maintaining Oki’s third party relationships for MCU and ZigBee wireless connectivity products.Sr. Director of Marketing and Applications• Marketed Oki Semiconductor’s products in the America’s, generating over $58M/yr revenue.• Developed and implemented a North American strategy for market focused customer engagement that achieved over $10M first year revenue increase (70% growth) in target markets for focus products.• Advised the president of Oki America, and advise multiple Business Unit managers at Corporate Headquarters of Oki Electric in Hachioji (Tokyo), Japan on market strategies and business policies.• Worked with Japan based Business Unit development teams to bring three new ARM based ASSP devices rapidly through development and into customer hands.• Developed and implemented a North American strategy for market focused customer engagement that achieved over $10M first year revenue increase (70% growth) in target markets for focus products.• Gained significant market and press recognition by reducing customer tool cost by an order of magnitude, from over $5000 per unit to under $250 per unit, and implemented overall product strategy, market positioning and messaging for Oki’s development tools increasing design wins fivefold.

I had worldwide marketing responsibility for new product strategy, business development and product definition for all ZiLOG FLASH MCU productsDirector, MicroDevices Business Unit • Directed P&L with $42M/yr revenue for core microcontroller business line representing over 40% of ZiLOG’s revenue base. Reported to the President, served on two executive committees responsible to develop strategies and implementation plans for ZiLOG’s refocusing of product development activities, and provide clear messaging to investors and customers.• Developed and launched entire new range of microcontrollers, with over 100 new products mainly targeted to consumer and commercial markets, in less than 2 years.
