In my role as Head of Technical, I am responsible for leading the technical team in the successful delivery of multiple projects (national and international). I am sitting on the Management Committee and report directly to the Intertoll CEO. The Technical Department consists of a software development and support team, a technical team handling business analysis, testing and hardware design and an installation and quality assurance team. Project involvement includes:• Mariannhill Toll Plaza – CTROM Design-Build upgrade of toll system and implementation of Electronic Toll Collection• Infralink toll plazas, Zimbabwe – Implement various additional payment methodologies on 9 toll plazas, including EcoCash, IceCash, Exempt payments via ANPR and an integrated debit card solution on the toll lane controller. We are currently busy with finalization of the orders for an expansion at Norton plaza and the implementation of Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) on the route.• N2 North coast route – CTROM Design-Build upgrade of toll system on 3 plazas• N4 West – CTROM Design-Build compliance certification• Implementation of a country wide business intelligence system using Tableau, combining 11 plaza databases and several management systems (T&A/HR, financial/procurement, etc)I have also implemented a software development process based on the Scrum development framework and developed the relevant policies, procedures and forms required. We have also passed the ISO 9001 audit with no findings.

In my role as Technical Manager: ITS, Toll and Communication, I was responsible for Systems and Technical aspects on projects within these fields. I was involved in the following projects:• SANRAL ITS DBOM – National coordinator: Design, Build and Work Authorisations• Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality – Preparation of the IRPTN (Integrated Rapid Public Transport Network) tender documents for the APTMS (Advanced Public Transport Management Systems) system• Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality – Preparation of the IPTS (Integrated Public Transport System) tender documents for the APTMS (Advanced Public Transport Management Systems) system• JRA (Johannesburg Roads Agency) – ATMS (Advanced Traffic Management System) restoration

Project Management on all "exceptional" projects that doesn't fit into the standard commercial offerings from Neotel. This includes major clients from the banking and government sector (including the entire Transnet portfolio)

Technical consulting and Project Management. Involved with large local Communications Backbone project and some international projects.

We provide consulting and technical writing and design services in the electronics and IT field. We have years of experience in designing solutions to customer requirements and taking these design to successful completion. We specialize in ensuring that the clients operational requirements are met through the technical solution.On toll related projects, we work exclusively with Toll Infrastructure Services (Pty) Ltd.During this time I also worked with Teti where I was responsible for the design and documentation on the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) contract awarded to Teti as a Design Build Operate and Maintain (DBOM) contract by South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL). The ITS contract is for Gauteng, KwaZulu Natal and Western Cape and is intended to improve the efficiency and safety of National Routes.

I was requested by Tolstar to return to full-time employment, after which they sold to Efkon AG. Tolstar was then merged into Tollink (Pty) Ltd.I was appointed as Technical Manager reporting to the Executive board to resolve outstanding issues on national and international projects. My duties included the following:• Technical responsibility for hardware and software development and testing• Re-build relations with clients and provide them with confidence in the company’s technical capability and commitment• Get the development department to work together as a team again. (Due to several management changes and severe pressure during the previous two years, there were no confidence or trust left in management or colleagues)The projects that were outstanding for delivery included:• Fermoy M8 bypass toll road, Ireland• Jaipur Kishangar toll road, India• Mumbai Pune toll road, India• N3 Toll Concession, South Africa• N2 South CTROM, South Africa• Tsitsikamma CTROM, South AfricaDuring this time we were also involved in Intelligent Transportation System tendering and design work.

During this time, I also started two other business' with partners, namely:- The Link Assessment and Moderation Skills Centre (Pty) Ltd – Director- Mpontshe Training CC – MemberI was involved in consulting, training and mentoring primarily on Project Management in the IT and Financial sectors. The company have partnered with a number of strategic companies locally and internationally in this regard.In association with one of our strategic partners, we have been involved with the generation of a number of qualifications in the CETA (Construction Education and Training Authority), FIETA (Forest Industries Sector Education and Training Authority) and the AgriSETA (Agricultural Education and Training Authority). We have also been involved with drafting of technical learning material, assessment tools, etc.We performed Project Management, contracting and training work with a number of companies during this period, which included companies such as ESKOM, South African Post Office, De Beers Cullinan and Siemens.During this period I also contracted to Tolstar (Pty) Ltd for continuity with their hardware and software design and development.

The main functions of my position at Tolstar (Pty) Ltd. were project- and contract management, client liaison, tender preparation, marketing and also technical work. I reported directly to the Managing Director. I also assisted with the day-to-day running of the company, and assisted extensively with the establishment of the company.The Electronics and ITS division was responsible for the majority of the company’s turnover, which consisted of short term installation projects and maintenance contracts that ranged from 3 to 8 years.The Electronics and ITS division had 15 personnel reporting to me, which included project managers, engineers, software developers and technicians. We were also involved in the development of several projects (hardware and software), internally as well as with partners where we jointly held intellectual property rights.Please see my CV for specific projects I was involved in.

During my time with Tolplan Consulting, I was involved in the following:• Technical advisor to the Independent Engineer for Intelligent Transport Systems on the Elefsis-Stavros-Spata Airport Motorway and the Imittos Western Peripheral Motorway in Athens, Greece.• Part of the proposed team for establishing Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) interoperability for the Greek Department of Works;• Part of the feasibility study team for implementing ETC for GAUTRANS;• Part of Independent Engineering team on the Emergency Telephone contract for the N3 toll route;• Part of the Independent Engineering team on the N4-Platinum toll road concession;• Involvement with the Standardization process of Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) in South Africa. This included the following work packages:o Techno-economic report;o Technology enquiry;o User Requirement Specification;o “Standard Specification for Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) Interoperability in South Africa”; ando Involvement in the setup of the “South African Society for Intelligent Transportation Systems” (SASITS).• Resident Engineer on NRA toll roads in KwaZulu-Natal attending to contract management and maintenance supervision. Supervised the implementation of new lane equipment and software at Mariannhill plaza and the maintenance of lane and MIS equipment at Mariannhill and N2 South toll route. The contracts were originally based on the Committee of State Road Authorities (CSRA) contract, but were later switched to a contract by the Committee of Land Transport Officials (COLTO).• Involved with the compilation of comprehensive asset registers for the South African National Roads Agency Limited.

I was employed by Services for Optical Fibre to manage all their projects and to assist with tendering for several tenders, of which the most important was an attempt to get involved in the Communications network for shadow toll project in Portugal (USD 2 million). We were extensively involved in the mining sector and with various CCTV related projects.

In my role as Project Manager, I was involved in the following:• Finalized Functional Specification for the M5 toll road in Hungary.• Researched and prepared a report on the new technologies available in Traffic Control and Management Systems (TCMS) for the Greater Johannesburg Transitional Metropolitan Council;• Involved in the tender preparation for the TCMS for the M5, Hungary;• Project manager for the procurement and installation of TCMS equipment for the M5, Hungary, the first turnkey project ever in Tolplan with a total value of USD 0.7 million. The contract was based on the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) contract.• Preparation of several TCMS tenders, which include among others:o M3, Hungary (USD 2.47 million);o Shanghai-Hangzhou, China (USD 2.55 million);o Huguenot tunnel, South Africa (USD 2.08 million);o Jalan Sungei-Besi, Malaysia (USD 0.65 million);o Kajang-Seremban, Malaysia (USD 3.8 million);o Portugal (USD 12 million) in concessionaire partnership with an Austrian company; ando Rumania (USD 10.3 million) in concessionaire partnership with an Austrian company.• Project manager for the procurement and installation of the Toll Collection Equipment (TCE) for Jalan Sungei-Besi, Malaysia, which is the first TCE turnkey project awarded to Tolplan. Contract value (USD 4.2 million).

In my role as Systems Engineer, I was involved in the following:• Responsible for the software on the Flight Control System for Kentron’s Seeker (Remotely Piloted Vehicle).• Project manager on a hydraulic entertainment simulator.• Project manager on a GPS guided Aerial Delivery System using a steerable ram-air parachute.• Software subsystem programming on ACTAS pilot training system

In my role as Electronics Engineer, I was involved in the following:• Responsible for a number of subsystems on a test bench for the upgrade of the Mirage III ATAR 9K-50 turbojet to the Mig 29’s SARKISOV RD-33 turbofan.• Design and manufacture of shock cone controller for integration of the abovementioned engine upgrade on the Mirage III.
