Queens Guard/Reconnaissance Soldier.As a Foot Guardsman in the Household Division my main duty was to provide the guard for Her Majesty the Queen at her royal residences, including Buckingham Palace, St James’ Palace, Tower of London and Windsor Castle. These experiences includes over one hundred guard duties and trooping the colour four times, including the Diamond Jubilee parade and providing the Guard of Honour for Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding. Duties as a reconnaissance soldier include gathering enemy intelligence undercover, providing specialist information to commanders 24 hours a day on the battlefield and using specialised equipment and skills to navigate during missions. Main duties include combat with enemy forces using various weapon systems, wilderness survival and manual labour duties, including digging trenches and preparing base camp. Duties also include Team Medic, dealing with casualties on the battlefield and convoy driver for detachments throughout tours of duty. Other driving duties include delivery and transportation of ammunition to various military bases throughout the UK, general vehicle maintenance and record keeping via drivers’ hours. During the last nine years as a highly trained reconnaissance soldier I have taken part in a number of over sea’s exercises to the Belize Jungle, Kenya and Canada and tours of duty to Afghanistan and a peace keeping tour of Bosnia.
