I usually introduce myself by saying, "My name is Gabbi Ferguson. I make cool things, and I teach people how to do cool things." I truly believe that is the most accurate description of my job and work experience. I have always had a passion for teaching others as well as playing with the newest technology. I never dreamed of combining the two; that was until I had a crisis in college and realized the major I was studying in was not for me. I stumbled into an open house for Technology, Design, and Engineering at North Carolina State University and fell in love. The 3D printing labs, robotics, AutoCAD classes.. I knew I found my calling.I completed my degree in technology, design, and engineering with a concentration in education and a minor in graphic communication. I took a position as a high school technology and engineering teacher at a local high school. I worked there for 3 years and loved it; eventually, I transitioned to my current position. I work as an IT Trainer and Instructional Material Designer with the Office of Information Technology at my alma mater, NC State University. I love my job! I work to develop, give, and assess trainings given to campus. These trainings vary, but include topics such as Google Workspace (NC State is a Google Campus) and cybersecurity. I also create graphics to promote, inform, and bring awareness to campus. My department does a lot with outreach, and I find myself frequently engaging with campus through presenting at orientations, hosting booths during campus events, organizing campaigns, and more.All this to say, I think I really do cool things, and I teach people how to do cool things!
