About Gathen Garcia
I am a nativeNew Mexican born and raised in Albuquerque. I’m married to Margie (my wife of 42 years). I have a son (Diego), a daughter (Alina) and my granddaughters (Sarae & Cienna). I have worked at PNM for the past 43 years. I am currently the Manager for Drafting & Geographic Information Systems Department at PNMResources. I’m responsible for managing all GIS, CAD and 3D Visualization support for electric transmission and Distribution PNMR. I’m also responsible for all AutoCAD customization within the various engineering groups. I have trademarked and patented two software applications that have been sold and are being marketed to the global utility industry. My group has received geospatial awards from GITA and ESRI. I also have been teaching Beginning through Advanced AutoCAD courses including 3D Modeling and Sketchup at the University of New Mexico Continuing Education Division for the past 33 years.I am a member of the Central New Mexico College GIS Advisory Committee. I was co-chair of the 2006 Electric and Gas User Group (EGUG) Conference in Albuquerque. I’m a past board member for LLAVE a non-profit organization, The primary purpose of LLAVE is to foster diversity by promoting education and cultural appreciation at PNM and in the community, providing a forum for addressing opportunities, issues and concerns regarding diversity. I'm a past board member for the New Mexico Geographic Information Council (NMGIC) and also participate on the Albuquerque Public Schools CAD advisory committee.I started my career as a manual drafter in 1976 and began working with AutoCAD back in 1983 (ver 2.x). I first got involved with GIS in 1997 while managing the CAD Department. My involvement with GIS has been in the Utility Industry.Specialties: AutoCAD, AutoCAD customization, Custom Symbol libraries, templates and menus. 3D modelling and developing standards within CAD/GIS organizations

Manager Drafting & Geographic Information Systems
Responsible for planning, directing and managing staff and the activities of the Department’s GIS/CAD/3D Visualization, including the development and management of the annual performance budget. Lead, facilitate and build consensus on long range technology direction associated with the vision of GIS/CAD and its integration with other Department-wide business systems application strategies to meet the Department’s strategic goals and objectives; work closely with senior level management and other representatives to build an integrated organization-wide view of GIS/CAD initiatives, projects, and resources; and periodically updates the GIS/CAD strategic plan while maintaining consistency with the Department’s overall strategic technology plan. Manage performance of the GIS/CAD/3D Visualization section, including planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating the performance of assigned staff. Coordinate with representatives from the corporations Information Technology staff and other departments to maintain effective and coordinated relationships that ensure compatibility between departmental policies, standards, and enterprise GIS/CAD applications, where applicable. Develop and maintain effective relationships with associated representatives from other departments within the organization. Develop and maintain quality control standards to ensure work is completed efficiently and effectively in a timely fashion, including the verification of work of subordinates for accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with applicable standards and specifications. Serve as a central point of coordination with engineering, Department of Information Technology and/or software vendors on significant application/database problems and change request issues that require expertise beyond Departmental capabilities.
