In terms of a career summary, it starts with my first love and schoolboy passion for any engineering work involving aircraft or, Aeronautical Engineering to be more precise. Prior to living the dream and joining the RAF as an Aircraft Technician I completed a 5-year electrical engineering apprenticeship. After 12 years in the RAF servicing and repairing Tornado fast jets I left and joined the global oil field services and metering provider Schlumberger as an Engineer and very soon became caught up in their newly developing Half Hourly Meter Operations (HHMO) business. For two years I occupied a dual role as their Senior Field Engineer trouble shooting complex technical problems anywhere in the UK and Metering Technical Assurance Auditor working under contract for the electricity regulator Elexon. After which the company offered me the role of Meter Operations Manager to manage its HHMO business. In 2002 I started working for npower initially as a Technical Support Manager to the HHMO business but soon after I assumed responsibility for its management. 4 years later I was seconded to The National Trust to consult on metering and energy policy influencing at Heads of Department and Director level. Returning to npower I took on a new and challenging Product Developer role and the product I delivered produced a multimillion-pound benefit for the organisation. In 2012 supporting the Smart Programme I lead for npower on the procurement of domestic smart gas and electricity meters (R0). Thereafter I ventured into Business Solutions Sales then after that back into an operations role leading a team delivering real-time energy data solutions for industrial customers. Reflecting on my 18+ years with my npower I held many varied roles, each offering its own set of unique challenges. In rising to those challenges, I personally contributed tangible value to the organisation both in terms of new business revenues (c £7.6m) and cost savings (c £15m) through technology and process improvement projects and negotiations with suppliers.Since leaving npower in March 2021 I have ventured into the world of contracting where all the different skills I have amassed over the years are now put to good use to deliver a variety of projects and deliverables for different clients.
Listed skills include Smart Metering, Meters, Energy, Electricity, and 45 others.
