I mentored under professors Dr. Schupp and Dr. Ghosh from Tiffin University. Throughout my time with them, they helped me dissect my senior capstone and presented details/ideas I had the opportunity to include in my capstone. Throughout my time with them, they helped me dissect my senior capstone and presented details/ideas I had the opportunity to include in my capstone. As my capstone was mainly focused on Forensic Science and Criminology/Criminal Justice, Dr. Schupp and Dr. Ghosh also helped me get to know this field of study. They showed me various crime scenes where we discussed how to collect data and analyze it. We covered topics ranging from different blood spatters, ballistics, and even cases with arson. I had the opportunity to sit in a presentation about the Hidden Cedars Condominiums' arson case that occurred in 2013. Dr. Schupp and Dr. Ghosh presented many opportunities that I would have never imagined I could experience. We visited Hamilton County's Coroner's Office in Blue Ash, Ohio. I was able to see the entire office, the autopsy rooms, and even the coolers where the bodies are stored. I was even able to meet the Chief Medicolegal Death Investigator (Justin Weber) and see his personal day. During our time at Cincinnati, I was also able to tour the campus of the University of Cincinnati. We were fortunate enough to meet Dr. Culley, the Head of the Department of Biological Sciences at the University. She gave us a tour of the Science Department. As Dr. Schupp and Dr. Ghosh played very big parts in my college decision process, they also gave me the opportunity to tour the campus of the Ohio State University with a current student. They both gave me so much information on different programs, scholarships, tuition, and even narrowing down the major I want to go into. It is a place where everybody is invited in and overall considered to be a fantastic practice. I have seen and experienced this in many instances during my mentorship. All of the patients are treated with extreme care and comfort, which can best be seen when the staff is conversing with their patients trying to reduce stress and anxiety. There are always laughs and smiles heard throughout the building, despite the sound being muffled through a mask. I always enjoy the time I spend with everyone at Liberty Family Smiles and I have learned a lot about dentistry. Being able to mentor under the faculty director, Dr. Gunn, has allowed me to see a fraction of what it is like to work in a lab and the Biomedical Science Major itself. I was able to meet with everyone in the lab and discuss individual work or projects they’ve been working on. Even though I was not able to go inside the lab to actually work with everyone and conduct research experiments, everyone did their best to make up for it. I learned so much from Dr. Gunn and the people in his lab about Salmonella Typhi in the gallbladder. I read articles about research done and was able to discuss things like biofilm formation on gallstones and how it is correlated with Salmonella Typhi in-depth with Dr. Gunn. I really enjoyed all the time I’ve had to spend with Dr. Gunn and his lab as well as Biomedical Science. Show less
