Born in the City of Sassi, Matera, the second most ancient and sustainable settlement all over the world, in 2001 he graduates in Architecture with full marks (cum laude) by University ‘La Sapienza’ in Rome. In 2007, he obtains the qualification of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Environmental Design. Gianluca has gained over twenty-two years of experience in the field of design, consultancy and project management of properties of all asset classes for international developers, companies, design firms and investment funds.Gianluca, one of the leading greenbuilding experts recognized at a national and international level, joins Drees&Sommer after having developed the Sustainability business in CBRE following significant experience in architectural, environmental and bioclimatic design - Eurosolar Italian Award - experimental bioclimatic residential buildings with Thomas Herzog - and Italian Leadership Award for NOKIA HQ - ENERGY PARK. As a designer and consultant, he has led over 200 LEED, WELL and BREEAM activities, including the 1st LEED Platinum in Italy, one of the first Data Centers in Europe and has established new green benchmarks with ‘Il Cortile della Seta’ - the 1st building WELL Core Platinum certified worldwide - and with the ‘Casei Gerola Logistics’ project, LEED Platinum with the highest worldwide score. Since 2018 he has been involved in the consultancy and WELL certification activities of Italian projects.Furthermore, since 2001 he has collaborated with Pietro Laureano (IPOGEA, UNESCO, UNCCD) on projects on knowledge of traditional technologies (TKWB) and on the planning and renewal of ecosystems in human settlements.Between 1999 and 2018 he collaborates with Italian and international architecture firms as a design architect, bioclimatic consultant and sustainability expert, mainly involved in complex urban regeneration projects and developments in Italy, Morocco, Israel and Egypt. As chief sustainability officer, he manages and coordinates the project activities of investors, occupiers and design teams to pursue excellence and deliver future proof properties. He develops ESG compliant real estate development projects in pursuit of the highest international standards. He supports investors in the transaction phase and draws NZC roadmaps optimizing and prioritizing investments.From 2011 to 2014 he was a member of the Board of Directors of GBC Italia.From 2015 to 2019 he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Lombardy Chapter of GBC ItaliaSince January 2023 he has been a member of the LEED v5 Consensus Committee of USGBC.
