My research is focused on decellularization, recellularization, and testing mechanical properties of leaves. I culture and stain cells under the hood and then use Zeiss Zen microscope software along with scanning electron microscopy to image the leaves. In addition to this, mechanical testing with the instron and DNA testing with plant kits is performed. I engineered a customized 15mL conical holder on AutoCAD as a solution to a cell seeding adherence issue that my team was having. To present these research findings, I attended the 2021 BMES conference. *My team and I have recently published a paper titled, “Small-Caliber Vascular Grafts Engineered from Decellularized Leaves and Cross-Linked Gelatin.”

I was a laboratory assistant in the wire and cable lab. I performed flexibility, crimp, voltage drop, and soldering tests on cables for aerospace applications. I also learned how to use tools and machines such as the dynascope, instron, foot gauge, skiver, and buffer. I conducted elongation, flexibility, tensile strength, deformation, UV exposure, heat shock, and cold bend tests. After testing, I filled out reports with my findings which were sent back to the client and used for UL approval of the wires.

During my Co-Op at United Therapeutics, I worked on technical projects and collaborated with team members to devise engineering solutions. I worked with SolidWorks to prototype and test customized parts which were then 3D printed (using resin, SLA, and filament printers), laser cut, or sent out to be CNC machine milled. I then installed these products and showed the client how they worked. In addition I performed quality testing on customized blow molds that the company received to ensure that they would fit the liquid capacity that was promised. I was included in weekly team meetings where I presented ideas and gave suggestions to others.
