I handle patent portfolios for small and large companies, as well as independent inventors. I have filed and prosecuted patents in the US and many foreign countries, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Europe, India, Israel, Japan, Mexico, Korea, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, and others.I primarily handle patents in the fields of chemistry, materials science, semiconductors, batteries, photovoltaic devices, optics, display technologies, chemical processing, polymers, thin films, water treatment, oil & gas, software, data processing, wireless networking, sensors, television and satellite technology, farming, and mechanical devices. Learning about and filing patent applications in all these fields keeps things interesting!I am comfortable with all aspects of patent procurement, including patent drafting, responding to actions issued by the U.S. Patent Office, and the patent appeals process. I also have experience with freedom-to-operate, noninfringement, and invalidity analyses and opinions.

I worked as a patent attorney with Lathrop & Gage following graduation from law school and admittance to the Colorado Bar. I participated in all parts of the patenting process, from drafting patents to interactions with the patent office. I also spent time performing patentability searching and opinion drafting and worked closely with a number of clients on portfolio strategy.

Greenlee Sullivan merged with Lathrop & Gage in January 2013. I continued my work as a patent agent at Lathrop & Gage after the merger.

Prior to and during law school, I worked as a patent agent with Greenlee Sullivan. I worked with large and small companies and technology transfer offices of large research institutions, drafting and prosecuting patent applications and performing patentability searching. I gained significant experience drafting and prosecuting foreign patent applications during my tenure at Greenlee Sullivan.I also assisted attorneys with patentability and freedom-to-operate opinions and played a key role in a number of due diligence assessments for clients during acquisitions, where I applied my technical expertise in assessing strengths and weaknesses of patent portfolios.

While working as a summer associate, I performed patent prosecution tasks, including claim and application drafting and drafting and filing Office Action responses. I also performed patentability searching, invalidity searching, and assisted with freedom-to-operate opinions. In addition, I assisted with patent litigation and dispute related legal research.

I built and characterized a cavity ringdown spectrometer for use in detection of low-levels of atmospheric mercury.
