I’m responsible for assisting and coordinating researchers in the development of unique design and technology projects. I’m heavily involved in conceptualizing the idea, designing, building, assembling and testing new hardware and products. I am responsible for health and safety in the department. Interfacing with suppliers and cost analysis on purchasing. I work closely with external companies and suppliers to drive on-time delivery of components and devices. The projects on which I work are various and based on actuation and power systems, haptic and interaction technologies, humanoids robots, learning and interaction, locomotion, biomedical robotics and virtual reality. I develop electro-mechanical devices\projects with custom hardware, electronics and software, all integrated into a normally highly compact space. Below some of principal projects where I’ve been working on design and development: WALK-MAN, humanoid robot developed to operate in unstructured environments spaces like natural and man-made disasters. COMAN, a compliant child size robot, the world’s first full-body humanoid that blends joint torque sensing/control and active impedance regulation with passive compliance at the whole body level. HAND EXOSKELETON, hand rehabilitation. HIRIS wearable computer with multiple sensors to control with simple gestures (patented\startup). uRALP, medical device in micro surgery to operate throat cancer. MICRO TURBINE, small turbine with a size of 1-Euro-coin to generate small but strategic amounts of electric energy in remote areas (patented\startup). COMPACT ARM, robotic arm with variable physical damping to enable robust and safe interaction with the environment. ROTARY SERVO VALVE, water hydraulic rotary servo valve (patented). VSAs, Rotational Variable Stiffness Actuator, fast and safe motion joint studied for robot (patented). HyQ a fully torque-controlled hydraulically actuated quadruped robot.
