Gideon grew up living close to nature in a Cape farm home, near the Langeberg. The context and memories of his childhood influenced, to a great extent, his Master’s research in search of a contemporary vernacular. This interest is reflected in his work, where he prioritises the use of local craftmanship and materials, and is always in search of more sustainable and economical ways of building. He enjoys working with a team, excelling in leading the builder and consultants in developing a unique building from the client brief, through a logical and simple approach to design that rejects the repetition of ideas. Gideon is skilled in bespoke structural and interior detailing, with a good eye for overall architectural coherence and balance. The architecture he creates possesses an implied and ageless beauty, with spaces that are thoughtfully designed to be meaningful and unique, and offering a feeling of being sheltered and secure.Gideon has been enthralled with building and buildings from a very young age. Aside from architecture, his personal interests include the art of Bonsai, cooking and architectural education.
