Gideon is a Chartered Director (SA) and has held various senior executive roles in the financial services industry since 1992. He worked in a number of jurisdictions on the African continent. He is experienced in broad spectrums of risk management, sustainability aspects, corporate governance , Higher Education and Board oversight processes. His involvement in the Presidential Climate Commission (PCC) exposes him to the Just Transition framework for the current debates on energy and climate change. He served on the compliance and risk working committees for the King II, III and IV Codes on corporate governance in South Africa. Since 2002 he also lectured part time at post graduate level on the topics of Compliance and Ethics risk management at the Universities of Johannesburg, Cape Town and Milpark Education.In 2017 he relocated permanently to Hermanus in the Western Cape and co- founded GMS Investments (Pty) Ltd with his spouse, Michele, where they currently live and own the Ocean Basket Franchise for Overstrand. He has specialised in non executive director roles and currently serves as a Non Executive Board member of Genric Insurance, a full subsidiary of Old Mutual Insure. He was a Wits University Council member and chaired respectively the Finance Committee and the Council Audit Committee during the period 2017-2024. He also served a 3 year term as a member of the Joint Audit and Performance Committee for Overstrand. In January 2024 he was appointed as Chair of the Finance and Governance Committee for the PCC. In May 2024 he was appointed on the Audit and Performance Committee for the Cape Winelands District Municipality. Gideon is also consulting on governance and sustainability matters for the Letsatsi and Lesedi Community Solar Park Trusts. These two Solarparks are two of South Africa's first and largest Solarparks in respectively the Northern Cape and the Free State.
