Responsibilities included:•The design, build, testing and delivery of a Best Practice Direct Expense Management system to 120 Budget Holders using Cognos Contributor. Doing so reduced time to complete the Budget from 4 months to 6 weeks•Gideon administered and managed the entire Cognos infrastructure, including working with IT to implement all Cognos upgrades as well as managing the Virtual Environment. •Integrated Cognos Planning with Cognos 8, greatly enhancing the reporting of planned data versus Actuals or other versions. Key reports utilise colour coding and rankings to highlight the variances that matter to management. This has meant that the management reporting cycle is completed by Working Day 5 (down from Day 8)•Reviewed and re-engineered the process of allocating costs to Products. Using Analyst, costs can now be allocated by one person in 2.5 hours where it used to take two people 2.5 days (using Excel)•Working in conjunction with SQL DBAs, created automatic Data Feeds from 12 different General Ledger systems as well as a group-wide HR system. This meant that the entire Expense Management System is now run out of a single system (Cognos), and that there is total acceptance of the “single version of the truth” by the business•Project managed the software selection, design, build and testing of a consolidation software package (Cognos Controller) to produce the statutory accounts. Trained the End-User community (20 Users world-wide)•Gideon also established and recruited for a 4 person Cognos Competency Centre to ensure that Hiscox had an appropriately staffed “centre of excellence”. The Cognos Competency Centre is there to assist any of the 500+ Cognos Users throughout the company with any issues they have, communicate best practice methodologies, provide Cognos training and value-added Cognos consulting that the business requires -
