During my stint, I have pushed the video team to increase its YouTube audience fourfold and improve its web traffic through photo galleries. The experience of writing and editing clean copy along with my knowledge of visual storytelling has generated videos with millions of views.

At this news organization, I have expanded my skill set and improved video game coverage. I took the initiative and started a weekly column, writing more than 50 game reviews a year. On top of my newspaper responsibilities, I have updated the papers’ blog site with previews, opinions and culture pieces. I have supervised freelance writers and created editorial plans that have raised the newspapers’ video game profile in the Bay Area. During my career, I have built contacts with publicists and developers, and I have no problem securing interviews and review copies. In addition, I am an expert in using social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook and know how to interact with the community to build a lasting ties with readers.

At this news organization, my skill set expanded exponentially. Starting on the copy desk, I have learned to design and edit across multiple sections. I did this under intense deadline pressure, handling big stories such as the pope’s death, presidential elections and breaking news stories such as the Ghost Ship fire. Over the years, I have worked my way to being a seasoned copy chief who can be flexible and take on additional work without being asked. Two years into my tenure, I took the initiative and started a weekly video game column at the paper. I have grown that part of my job into a strong presence in print and on the website. I was also on the front lines of social media becoming an expert on the best practices in this field, discovering ways to drive traffic to the company’s website and establishing a relationship with my audience and sources.
