Gil S. Epstein is a Professor of Economics and currently Dean, Regional Colleges, Preparatory Programs at Bar-Ilan University. He is a Research Fellow at IZA (Bonn) as well as at CreAM (London) and a Ld’A Fellow (Milano). He received his doctorate in Economics and Statistics from the Hebrew University, Jerusalem, Israel. He then spent 2.5 years at the University of Pennsylvania before joining the Department of Economics at Bar Ilan University in Israel. He has won a number of prestigious grants. He is frequently invited to present his work at international conferences and at institutes around the world. Epstein has published widely, with over 100 publications on political economy, public choice, labor economics, migration and public policy in leading academic journals including Management Science, European Economic Review, Journal of Development Economics, Public Choice, Social Choice and Welfare and Journal of Public Economics and Economics, His widely cited book, Endogenous Public Policy and Contests (with Nitzan, Springer) integrates politicians decision making with that of interest groups. The book builds micro foundations for the understanding of policy making affected by interest groups. The implications of the research can be used in many different aspects such as the determination of migration quotas, the determination of minimum wages, privatization of government owned firms, etc. He also edited with Ira N. Gang a volume on Migration and Culture (Emerald) and a special issue on this topic for Review of International Economics. He is currently an Associate Editor of the Journal of Population Economics, Associate Editor for e-economics and on the Editorial Advisory Board of the Open Political Science Journal. He has served as a referee for the leading journal in economics including the American Economic Review, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Public Economics etc. He is also called open to referee PhD thesis from leading universities worldwide.

Faculty of Social Sciences at Bar-Ilan University is the largest of all faculties and most varied in the university.It includes 12 departments: Department of Psychology, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Department of Political Studies, Department of Criminology, Department of Management, School of Social Work, School of Education, School of Communication, Department of Economics, The Graduate School of Business Administration, The Interdisciplinary Department of Social Sciences, Department of Geography and Environment.

Under this job, Prof. Epstein is in charge of all the Regional Colleges under Bar-Ilan University (4 colleges), as well as in charge of the Preparatory Programs at the university and Credential and Certificated Programs. There are 25 workers in the unit and the objective of Prof. Epstein is to enhance the unit and increase its quality and quantity of the students.

Professor Gil Epstein headed the team which founded the school, both academically and administratively.The School of Graduate Studies manages all matters relating to advanced degrees (master and doctorate) in all of Bar-Ilan's departments and faculties. It deals with all the issues of the students, academic and administrative such as dealing with the refereeing and approving thesis and doctoral dissertation, status issues, academic exceptions, scholarships, etc. Professor Epstein is currently leading its development, strengthening the processes and striving to put the school at heart of the university research system. The aim is for the school to serve as a model of academic excellence. The School of Graduate Studies consists of academic institutes with twenty professors representing all the different fields of research in the university as well as twenty administrative workers. There is close to 10,000 students in all advanced studies under the school of graduate studies.
