I have worked with Empow Studios for three years now. I started as a part-time employee in the Lexington afterschool program where I taught children in grades 2-8 basic robotics construction and coding with Lego Mindstorms. During the summers I have been a full-time instructor at summer camps teaching a variety of technologies including Java, Minecraft, and Digital Animation. More recently I have scaled back my commitment and teach both Minecraft and survey classes while looking for a full-time position using programming skills.

The project I worked on the most and am most proud of was a web application that allowed city employees to submit road closure and hazard data that was then sent to an MS SQL Server database for internal use and was also rendered into XML specified by the Waze Connected Citizens program. I created a form that filled dynamically with HTML5, Javascript, JQuery, and Bootstrap. I used the GoogleMaps Drawing API to allow users to draw lines on a map of Framingham rather than having to enter geocoordinates manually. Finally, I wrote middleware with C# in Visual Studio and the Web API framework to cause each form submission to both write to the database and generate the XML file. Although it was a relatively small project, I created it from scratch and taught myself all necessary skills to complete my goal. Another employee created the database but all the coding, front end through SQL, was my own work.

At the Jewish Vocational Service, my primary function was to teach adult learners Math and English Language Arts skills typically gained in grades K-12. I taught a class focused on skills and projects for the Boston Adult Diploma Program that offered students a more rigorous alternative to a GED. Students who were still working on more basic skills were in my intermediary class. Additionally, I installed the Open Source Learning Management System "Moodle" on a Linux server and used it to post quizzes. My supervisor mentioned this work when applying for a $150,000 distance learning grant and it was a factor in our department being awarded the grant and creating a distance learning position.
