I've been very fortunate to have gained a wealth of experience in healthcare leadership from owning and operating hospitals, co-founding a publicly traded medical REIT, developing and managing a mutual health insurance company and HMO, developing new hospital "start-ups", buying and selling a number of hospitals, serving as Adm/CEO at a number of hospitals and all the ancillary responsibilities associated with these ventures since originally entering the job market over three decades ago back in June of 1981. My career has been exclusively in the healthcare sector and I feel blessed to have played a part in helping other people over the years. However, my proudest accomplishment in life is my marriage to Melanie in 1988 and becoming a father to my wonderful daughter Sally and two wonderful sons, Will and Phillip.

I was employed part time by MPT for the first 4 or 5 years after start-up and currently serve as one of the Independent Directors, a member of the Investment Committee and Chairman of the Governance Committee of the Board.

I purchased my fathers GHS ownership interest back on July 1, 2006 and became the majority owner with a 93% equity position and with the other 7% owned by a family trust for my three children. GHS is in the hospital business but also owns several primary care clinics, home health agencies, a Sleep Inn & Suites located on I65 in Evergreen, AL and 50% of Govil-GHS, LLC a healthcare software company formed as a JV with Dr Govil, one of our physicians that developed the EMR software used at one of our hospitals to meet the EMR meaningful use requirements of CMS. More detail is available at www.gilliardhealth.com but GHS has owned a number of other hospitals that it has acquired and later divested over the years including Chambers County Hospital in LaFayette, AL - Wedowee Hospital in Wedowee, AL - Randolph County Hospital in Roanoke, AL and Troy Regional Medical Center in Troy, AL.

I wasn't promoted to my current position of GHS leadership until after serving as corporate CFO and after serving as hospital administrator for all of the GHS hospitals. I added the responsibility of Board Chairman after personally acquiring the balance of GHS ownership interest from my father in 2006. There was a period of approximately 5 years from about January of 1994 to about January of 1999 that GHS leased its hospitals to Vaughan Health. I retained my leadership title for GHS during that period (described below) and moved on to serve full time in leadership positions with other organizations (also described below). I returned to GHS in my current position after the lease was terminated with Vaughan Health in about January of 1999. I currently work full time in this position at GHS and serve on the MPT Board as described above.

The TPA services were expanded allowing DSI to become a sophisticated managed care organization (MCO) to fulfill their contractual responsibilities of developing and managing the HIE. As the EVP/COO of MHA-DSI, I reported directly to Sam Cameron, Pres/CEO of the parent company, MHA, to the DSI Board of Directors and to the HIE Board of Directors.

I was hired by and reported to Sam Cameron, Pres/CEO of MHA and tasked with the responsibility of transforming DSI from a TPA to a profitable Managed Care Organization, capable of fulfilling a development agreement to start-up and license the HIE and manage the company on behalf of the 12 hospital owners thereafter.

Executive Vice PresidentPhyscian Solution, Inc (Psi) Jan 1994 - May 1996Selma, AlabamaI started up PSI as a for-profit subsidiary of Vaughan Healthcare to offer physician recruitment services, practice management services and IPA & PHO development and management services to the parent company, local doctors plus all of the five hospitals and their local doctors in the Vaughan Health system. The IPA in Selma was owned by "all" of the local doctors other than one primary care group owned by UAB Hospital. PSI, among other responsibilities of their IPA management contract, would negotiate and execute capitated provider agreements with United Healthcare and other HMOs on behalf of the IPA. I reported directly to Bob Morrow, Pres/CEO of Vaughan Healthcare, the PSI Board of Directors and the Board of Directors of the IPAs.
