SolarGen Systems is an eight-year old startup company based in Northern California. It spent its first two years rapid prototyping an AC portable power pack called simply the Brick. The unit consisted of standard off-the-shelf components (micro-controller, lithium-ion batteries, and micro-inverter (See photos)). Novel at the time (2016) the Brick's three innovations were 1) being a portable AC unit bigger than 9 volts, 2) being connected to portable solar panel units (also novel at the time) and 3) pushing its li-ion capacity into the 600 watt to 2.4 kilowatt range. The motivation: To market the Brick in rural areas of Africa and other Third World countries as a low-cost portable solution for families living there who have no grid power network and who more than likely will never have one. The most recent game-changing events for our Company have been wave after wave of wildfires in Northern California, PG&E blackouts and CoVid 19. The effect: By early March 2020 when we were poised to close on roughly $90,000 in contracts -- five residential contracts in the $7,500 to $12,000 range and 1 agricultural client in the $45,000 to $58,000 range --, disaster struck for the new startup in the form of CoVid 19. Slowly coming out of this dark night of the Pandemic, SolarGen Systems has re-focused its efforts on what it does best: Designing, prototyping and licensing low-cost energy-harvesting systems to semiconductor companies for manufacturing and installing in rural areas.SolarGen Patents: U.S. Utility Patent For A 2-Channel WIFI Battery-Recharging ( Provisional Patent awarded, 2023).
