I am a Paediatric oncologist and hematologist with a decade of experience in childhood cancer care in a resource limited country. A board certified pediatrician with expertise in both patient care and clinical research at various levels. My drive in this field is to champion for improvement in outcomes of children with cancer in low income countries through implementation of resource adapted strategies, health system strengthening and innovative cancer education for the health workforce.In the last seven years I have participated in a number of collaborative research particularly in the field of implementation science including use of flow cytometry to enhance diagnosis of hematological malignancies, use of targeted therapies for pediatric lymphoma , and in modelling a virtual cancer education program for primary healthcare workers in western Kenya.I also participate actively in formal training and mentoring of various cadres of trainee students as a honorary lecturer and pediatrician at the university hospital and as a co-author in several peer reviewed publications in the field of childhood cancer diagnosis and survival outcomes in low middle income countries. I passionately participate in patient advocacy and in the advisory committee of the national cancer institute- Kenya.My future ambition is to participate in regional clinical trials and implementation research aimed at investigating the unique biological factors and socioeconomic factors contributing to survival disparities in resource limited settings. Additionally ,continue to participate in advocating for access, affordable and quality care for children with cancer nationally through stakeholder involvement and consultancy as an expert.
