•Led the Economic Capital framework within SLF Canada •Led the implementation of the risk appetite and budgeting framework within SLF Canada and successfully incorporated it within the strategic and business planning processes.•Initiated and led the first risk planning conference with key business units and Corporate stakeholders to provide a foundation of enhanced risk management planning in the Canadian operations. •Appointed as the Chief Risk Officer for the SLF Trust Inc. and Sun Life Insurance Inc. subsidiaries and led, designed and implemented the first documented risk management framework and first Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP) for Sun’s trust subsidiary and presented them to the SLF Trust Board.•Led OSFI approvals of revisions to Sun Life`s Canadian Model for calculating statutory capital of various segregated fund products and chaired the quarterly Capital Model OSFI touchpoints for the Canadian Model.
•Initiated a product review that was not actively marketed from SLF product shelf and led a risk and profitability review that ultimately reintroduced the product in the market resulting in an improved understanding from management and enhanced competitive profile. The product was one of the best sellers for that year with an improvement of over 170% from the previous year. Received a CEO of the year award nomination for the work performed.•Led the recommendation, approval and implementation of a revised pricing methodology for our National Account Capital Accumulation Plans (CAP) and participated in a road show to describe and educate the sales community. The revised pricing methodology is still being used today.
•Led a team for the review, revision and implementation of the reserve calculation and hedge strategy for the Guaranteed Annuity Options (GAO) in SLF UK branch, including the selection of a UK Capital Market Advisor. Team received the CEO of the year award for the work performed.•Supported the UK Subsidiary in the development of their UK Par investment strategies, including the creation of a valuation model to approximate the economic value of the embedded guarantees. The model was extensively used by the UK Subsidiary as it provided a reliable proxy to support their existing internal model.•Led a team of business and legal experts to produce a Corporate standard for ISDA and CSA alternatives and wording based on the 2002 Master Agreement to provide minimum requirements and consistent application throughout the enterprise.
•Represented the Canadian operation to the Working Group that created and implemented the earning sensitivity program that is now published as part of the SLF Financial Statements and forms a critical part of the organization’s business management and decision making.•Led the Group Life & Health and Group Retirement Services harmonization process following the Clarica and Sun Life amalgamation, including the review and implementation of a revised structure, monitoring and reporting framework.•Promoted to lead the Group portfolios area within 1 year of start date with Sun Life.
