This job was an unrealized opportunity. Awarded the position of Facilities Engineer for either McMurdo or Scott Station during the winter months. The job entailed servicing the equipment (heating and such) and processing preventative maintenance procedures to keep the equipment functional. A side project would be to do a field study to update hardware so that headquarters can receive live telemetry from the equipment directly , via a SCADA system, from the home office in the United States. Based on my previous experience, this was an ideal arrangement for both parties.Unfortunately, this occurred during the US Government shutdown, and being a government contract all processes were paused. We lost contact for a period and when it was re-established, we tried to continue with the prerequisites. One of those was to provide a series of physical examinations to prove that I was healthy enough for an extended period of isolation. The examinations already conducted could not be provided to them in time because of the shutdown and hence the period expired. They requested renewed and costly tests. Being that the time for reimbursement for my previous tests also lapsed for the shutdown, I was to pay for the first set out of pocket, and now their request would require out of pocket payment for a second set. An expense I was unable to comply.Hence, deemed unfit for the incident (though I am as healthy as ever) thus voiding the contract. The opportunity passed. But not the dream. I do hope to try again in the future. I know that I can comply with the requirements for such an exotic role.Though not an experience in my tract, this is a point of pride in my career development. The fact that my previous and current experience qualifies me to do work in remote locations. Therefore, I add this to my list for bragging rights.

Manage a team for a long term project on updating a steam generation power plant for power production for a customer in Granite City. From concept to execution was responsible to conduct field studies, modify older automation program into newer Modicon M258 MAC hardware as requested and executed on site start up support.

Work on projects from concept to final install. Various projects presented from industry such as steel manufacturing to military marine vessels to soap process lines. Projects vary but process is similar, when assigned a project a field study is conducted. Technology used is determined and evaluated for replacement, majority of technology might be outdated or of foreign origin-these require understanding before upgrade recommendationDesign of hardware and programming processors will follow. Final product subject shop testing and customer review before field installation and start up support occurs.Other duties include Service Calls. These are interesting because customers may not be able to describe the issue before arrival so troubleshooting and resolving the problem on the fly with the tools you carry in is usually the norm. Most calls are on systems previously serviced but there are few where you arrive not knowing the process or defective hardware but you leave knowing everything of the fixed system. These become satisfying when the customer would later contact you for suggestions on ongoing issues.

Upgrade Movable Bridge controls from relay technology to PLC controlled. Worked mostly with Allen-Bradley controllers and drives but also integrated instrumentation for positioning feedback and precision controls.We would be contracted by a Bridge engineering firm that would do the mechanical portion of the job. When my electrical design is completed and approved, shop construction and Factory Acceptance Test is conducted to customer's approval. I would then go to the field for installation of all hardware. Installation includes working and supervising electrical and mechanical contractors to complete install then field testing all controls by the allotted deadline.After project installation is complete I am tasked with writing manuals for operation and maintenance of the movable structures. On occasion the customer requests training courses for operators on the new controls which I would then provide.

Observe client activities and interact when necessary. Mostly discuss procedures and assist in decision development process that the client may not fully understand. At the end of term documentation of daily activities were required for Supervisors to evaluate and determine the client's needs to resolve their issues.

Started as an Electrical Repair Technician. Responsibilities were round the clock electrical maintenance of steel producing lines when problems arose. When said problems occurred immediate resolution of it was expected to prevent substantial down time.Opportunity arose for an Electrical Planner position.This position consisted of surveying lines during operation and determining items to be worked on at the next outage. Created preventative maintenance procedures for the ERTs to work on and supervise electrical crews during weekly downturns on the steel producing lines.

AutoCAD and IO design for Industrial Grinding Machinery. Most machinery was rehabbed from older models. Duties included surveying old technology panels and drawing schematics for new panels with updated technology. Also included upgrading operational panels with new controls with HMI interface.Once new panels built, I would troubleshoot my new design first static for wire connections and then under power with 480VAC before mounting the panels into the finished product.
