As the technical lead in teams of 3-5 software developers, I designed and implemented components for several large scale solutions including:-Government Gateway (see www.gateway.gov.uk): An online portal that provides a connection between U.K. citizens and government departments. I led a team who built the digital document signing components for secure transactions. This was the first public system to use personal digital certificates in the U.K.New Tax Credits (see www.taxcredits.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/HomeNew.aspx): An online service that allows families to calculate their tax benefits and apply for those benefits. My team and I built the rules engine which implemented the complex calculations required to determine an individual’s benefit.BBC Digital Curriculum (see http://jam.bbc.co.uk): An online, interactive version of the U.K. School curriculum intended to supplement classroom learning. For this project, I developed the tools and practices for automated build, deployment and testing of the solution. The resulting ‘Solutions Build Framework’ was adopted as a standard for future complex projects at Microsoft.

I provided expert onsite guidance and training for clients developing systems using the latest Microsoft technology. Typically, this would involve working with the client’s development team and then delivering part of the system from within the business. For the majority of this period I contributed to classified Government projects.

I worked with teams in the research and development lab to deliver cutting-edge desktop applications running on Microsoft Windows and HP/UX, these included ‘New Wave Mail’ and ‘Advanced Terminal’.

I was responsible for onsite support to MCS’s customers running business applications. This included customizing COBOL accounting packages for Bermudian tax law.

Implementing computer hardware and software solutions to support research projects.Including interfacing a gas chromatograph to an Apple IIe computer and building the software for calibration and data acquisition.
