I’ve always believed that the real impact of training is not about giving all the answers. It’s about giving the tools to find the answers - no matter what the challenge!Although I started my career in hospitality (fantastic to do when younger!), my journey led (via information systems and accountancy) me to training, where I could help others to develop and grow. Across my career as a leader, manager and consultant at great training organisations such as CIPFA, Aylesbury College and Tribal, I have been honoured and privileged to meet lots of vibrant, hardworking individuals from all walks of life.Whether it is engaging with young apprentices starting their careers, or working with business leaders to address knotty problems and explore opportunities, the rush of unlocking potential in people and organisations still excites me.I still remember starting an apprentice scheme for public finance roles, aiming to engage non-traditional entrants to the profession. We had hairdressers, electricians, retail staff and others join us - all hungry to learn and grow. Over the years, it’s been fascinating to watch each one of them blossom as leaders - many of them at director-level positions in their organizations. Just goes to show - nothing can really beat the impact training can have on people, unlocking future opportunities and addressing current issues. Classrooms (whether real or virtual) are spaces that buzz with ideas, creativity and kinship that it inspires people to help each other grow - forging powerful, everlasting bonds along the way. As the Head of Business at Oxford Brookes Business School, I am passionate about welcoming businesses and individuals into this creative atmosphere and empowering them to succeed. When I am not at university, you’ll find me skiing or repairing motorcycles and cars or helping family and neighbours with IT issues (a never-ending role!). Just like education, my hobbies are also about challenging myself and supporting others. To reach me about our courses (or even to talk motorcycle repairs), please email me at: gorr@brookes.ac.uk
