At the Commonwealth Foundation I led the Foundation’s advocacy and engagement, communications and organisational learning. I managed a team of 8 permanent staff and several contracted consultants.The People of the Commonwealth programme aims to bring together citizens and civil society organisations to the centre of current debates and global decision-making on critical policy issues that affect the lives of individuals and their communities across the Commonwealth. From climate justice to vaccine equity, I led our programme to amplify the voices and demands of civil society and small and vulnerable states. Using digital communications, our events brought thousands of people together to discuss and debate critical issues and debate solutions. Between 2020-2022 over 5,000 people attended our online events live. And in 2022 I led the in-person convening of over 250 people from 50 countries for the Commonwealth People’s Forum, in Kigali, Rwanda. Internally, I worked to assess and evaluate the Foundation’s programme effectiveness and our progress against our theory of change. I also worked to ensure that we constantly learned as we implemented and that programmes and working practices constantly evolved and improved.

Ocean New Deal for Communities (Ocean NDC) was a 10-year urban regeneration programme in one of the most deprived neighbourhoods in East London. I lead an assessment of capacity needs of community based organisations in the NDC area and developed and delivered a bespoke capacity building programme. I also managed a small grant funding programme for community development projects.

I was responsible for: - Led management of the Institute’s programme; development of advocacy priorities and workplanning - Shared responsibility for fundraising for our £600,000 annual budget, and reporting to Board and donors. I prepared and secured substantial funding from the EU, The MacArthur Foundation, FAO, UNDP and other Foundations;- Shared responsibility for managing seven staff and interns. - Designed and delivered four regional residential training programmes for government technical staff and civil society leaders in participatory natural resource governance;- Research and policy analysis on protected areas management, sustainable tourism and biodiversity conservation

The Environmental Awareness Group (EAG) is a national, non-profit organisation focused on the sustainable use and environmental awareness. I was the organisation's first Director: • Negotiated with key national stakeholders and decision-makers for the protection and management of critical wildlife and fisheries habitat. • Established the Offshore Islands Conservation Programme a collaborative project with government and international organisations to conserve important habitat and wildlife species. This flagship project is still ongoing- Designed and developed environmental education campaigns for schools, community groups and the general public.• Responsible for all fundraising and management of two staff and up to ten volunteers.
