Carer and family advocacy and individualized family support.Carer support groups and workshopsCounselling Plan, develop and deliver training and workshops to carers to build knowledge, skills and capacity- Host, facilitate and administer carer support groups- Planning and delivery of social activities and other key events- Provide information and support to individual carers - Assist carers: support linkage and referrals, document preparation, liaison with other agencies- Enquiries and interviews in preparing applications for the NILS (No Interest Loan Scheme) - Promotion of Carers Queensland services and programs through presentations to community groups, expos and hosting information tables within the region, as well as attend inter-agency/network meetings - Educate service providers, other agencies and the general community about carer issues

Position: Registration & Information Service and Support AdvisorB. PURPOSE, DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESPurpose of the ProgramFrom 1 July 2011, Carers Queensland has delivered the Registration and Information Service for the Federal Government Better Start for Children with a Disability initiative. The initiative provides funding for early intervention therapies for children under the age of six with Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Fragile X Syndrome or hearing and vision impairment (thresholds apply).Each eligible child can access up to $12,000 of early intervention therapies, up to a maximum of $6000 in any one financial year.Approved allied health providers include speech pathologists, audiologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, psychologists, and orthoptists who have registered with the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs. Main responsibilities:Coordinate a team of Registration & Information Service (RIS) operational staff including the following: • Maintain and continuously improve the RIS in line with contractual arrangements with Carers Australia• Be responsible for all reporting requirements including collation, preparation and submission according to relevant guidelines processes for internal and external reporting• Maintain a positive team-based culture that ensures the service reaches its goals• Respond to service and management priorities for best outcomes• Coordinate and lead the Better Start Stakeholder Reference Group, including arranging minutes and addressing action items• Continue to develop and complete state marketing and promotional plan• Evaluate Registration and Information Service in July 2012 and make recommendations for improvement• Ensure data is kept up to date and work with team members to ensure data accuracy and timeliness of entry• Review and authorise specific claims • Undertake and record claims and assessments of applicants
