Gillian King is a visual artist, art therapist, registered psychotherapist (qualifying), art mentor, and art educator from Treaty One Territory, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Gillian graduated from the the Toronto Art Therapy Institute in 2023 and is the owner of Make Art Therapy. Gillian has partnered with various organizations throughout Manitoba and Ontario to provide their staff, clients, participants, students, and communities with art and mental health related offerings, collaborate on special projects, provide educational programs and conduct research. She has spent the last four years working with individuals living in the community and in long term care at Perley Health Care Centre, CareFor Health and Community Services, the Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County (Ottawa, Ontario), and as an Art & Wellness Consultant for the Ottawa Art Gallery. Gillian is passionate about the potential for art to build community, empathy, and make meaning in our lives.Gillian holds an MFA from the University of Ottawa (2016) and is the winner of the 2019 Espronceda Centre for the Arts and Culture Artistic Prize (Barcelona, Spain), the 2017 RBC Emerging Artist Award, and the 2017 Nancy Petry Award. Gillian has shown in galleries and participated in residencies nationally and internationally. Her work has been featured in Border Crossings Magazine, Canadian Art Magazine, Create! Magazine, and CBC Gem.
