The foundation has $3.3 billion in assets and makes over $140 million in grants each year. Gilmore joined The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation in 2014 to help build the foundation's first investment office. The investment program for the foundation was transitioned from being outsourced to internally managed. The global portfolio is invested across all asset classes including hedge funds, private equity, venture capital and real assets. The foundation is one of the largest private charitable foundations in the United States dedicated to meeting the basic needs of people experiencing poverty. Its sole purpose is to assist low-income and vulnerable individuals and families through nonprofit grants to direct-service providers.

Prior to joining the Weinberg Foundation, Gilmore served as Interim Chief Investment Officer for The Ohio State University. He was responsible for the investment management of the University’s $3.5 billion long-term investment pool and a team of seven professionals.

David Gilmore joined the University in 2009 as its first Director of Investments. He was an integral part of building out the University’s investment capabilities under its first Chief Investment Officer. Gilmore focused on asset allocation and manager research globally across traditional and alternative investments. He was tasked with sourcing, evaluating, and performing due diligence on prospective investments as well as the ongoing monitoring of existing investments. He was a member of the internal investment committee which had discretion regarding manager selection and strategy decisions across all asset classes. Gilmore was directly responsible for managing all Liquid Strategies for the University which included global equity, fixed income, global credit and hedge funds allocations.

Before joining the University, Gilmore was a partner at Gerber Taylor Capital Advisors. Gerber Taylor is an investment consulting firm and manages fund of funds providing investors access to strategies including hedge funds, private equity, and real assets. During his tenure the firm consulted on over $20 billion in assets and managed over $3 billion in discretionary fund of funds.
