The Director of Self-Sufficiency Programs provides leadership in SHCS’ efforts to develop, manage, evaluate and improve a diverse array of programs that help people to identify pathways out of poverty through both individual support and collective initiatives. Director of Self-Sufficiency provides leadership to develop and integrate efforts in three modes of work: direct services, mutual support systems, and community organizing. Direct service programs help working poor and immigrant families: build assets and income security (employment search, placement, public benefits navigation, small business development, and financial coaching), advance educational attainment and equity (youth and adult literacy, academic support, parenting education, and parent leadership development), create sustainable food systems (urban gardening skills, nutrition education, and community building), and strengthen families and fight domestic violence (family mentoring, individual advocacy, domestic violence support systems, and promote leadership development). Mutual support systems involve member driven initiatives to address critical needs. Community organizing develops members and allies to lead grassroots campaigns that challenge structural barriers to justice. Lead the alignment and coordination of integrated internal programs and spearheads community initiatives and program collaborations with community leaders and service providers. Provides direct supervision and training to a diverse and growing program area, serves on the senior management team of SHCS, and acts as a liaison with external collaborations and funding entities.
