After spending 20 years in the medical field, I returned to school to obtain my K-6 teaching license. While in school, I spent two years as a literacy interventionist with MN Reading Corps, and two years as a Technology Paraprofessional in the Inver Grove Heights school district. My student teaching was done in a 3rd grade class at Garlough Environmental Magnet School in West St. Paul, MN. After graduating, I taught 3rd grade in Hastings Public Schools and 4th and 1st grades in the WSP/Mendota Hgts./Eagan school district as a long-term substitute. I am beginning my seventh year in the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage school district and have taught Kindergarten, 2nd and 3rd grades there.The school I teach at in Savage has a diverse population, is 80% free/reduced lunch, and has programs in place that focus on student behavior and academic challenges. This Title I school has given me the opportunity to work with families through cultural liaisons and find resources by collaborating with social workers, school psychologists and Special Education. I have participated in multiple behavior-based professional development sessions, six years of CPSS (Culturally Proficient School Systems) training and have been an active member on the PBIS, Literacy and district-level Math Steering committees. I also participate as a member of a literacy data collection and analysis team for my school through the University of MN. District 191 has given me direct experience with MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports).Other trainings I have received are EnVoy Classroom Management, PBIS, Response to Intervention (RTI), Responsive Classroom, Equity in Math (Jim Brickwedde/Hamline University), Equity for ELL/ESL students, Restorative Circles/Practices as well as a Science Leadership course through the University of MN.I graduated with honors from Augsburg College with a 3.93 GPA and a BS in Elementary Education. I am currently enrolled to begin a Master's degree program at Purdue Global University for Instructional Design and Technology. In my community, I participated for three years on the Board of Directors for the Inver Grove Heights BEST Foundation, which plans events to fund scholarships for Simley High School graduates.
