Chemical biology of microbes: Dr. Amrita B. Hazra Investigation of vitamins B1 biosynthesis in E. coli including a comprehensive literature survey on thiamine and purine biosynthesis, and how the two pathways are connected in E. coli and Salmonella enterica. Establishment of several phenotypes of thiamine and purine biosynthesis mutants under varying nutrient conditions with a focus on differences between aerobiosis and anaerobiosis.

I was accepted as an intern at GW nature cosmetic due to my expertise in Microbiology in order to identify critical points in production and filling of cosmetics with regard to putative contamination risks. Therefore, I observed the entire production and filling procedure of products affected by contaminations and identified possible sticking points. In a second step, I drafted a new concept for operating hygiene and developed a plan for regular employee trainings. Moreover, I carried out the first of such trainings and restructured some steps in production to minimize the risk of contaminations.
