Led educational hikes to teach community members about wildlife and how to have safe wildlife encounters, to improve human-wildlife coexistence.

Maintained parks throughout the City of Spokane: removed litter and trash, raked and blew leaves, weeded, pruned, planted garden beds, edged turfgrass, operated small power and hand tools, and drove light trucks and tractors. Interacted with the public and reported unusual situations or broken equipment to supervisor.

Facilitated monthly meetings and events between a diverse stakeholder group that includes timber, conservation, and recreation interests with the USFS to manage the Colville National Forest effectively. Also served as Outreach Coordinator--planning and organizing events, social media, etc.

Served as assistant to the Education Coordinator for the City's Solid Waste Department. Worked with a diverse group of partners to reach City's waste reduction and contamination reduction goals. Conducted project management and data analysis for a recycling cart tagging project to reduce contamination in curbside carts. Created outreach videos, a waste reduction podcast, graphics and outreach materials, etc. to educate local residents. Worked with neighborhood councils, City Council advisory committee, businesses, apartment complexes, etc. to assist with waste reduction efforts. Checked steelhead catch on the Imnaha River, and assisted other fish and wildlife staff as needed.

Surveyed redband trout populations via backpack and boat electrofishing in creeks/rivers of Eastern Washington with field crew of 7-8. Participated in pit tagging of juvenile and adult trout, measured and weighed fish, applied marks to fish, took scale samples, etc. Assessed salmonid habitat conditions—water quality, discharge, substrate, channel unit attributes, LWD, bankful and wetted widths, gradient, etc. Assisted with FWIN walleye survey on Lake Roosevelt—set and pulled gillnets, and took measurements and samples from netted fish. Performed data entry, quality control, and assisted other staff as needed (Spokane Hatchery, cougar hide check-in, etc.)

Worked with team of 6 to assess the effect of logging on deer nutrition in Colville National Forest. Conducted vegetation surveys and forestry measurements, built temporary enclosures for deer, and performed deer observation studies. Became familiar with many plant species local to NE Washington.

Collaborated with game wardens to interview boaters and inspect hundreds of boats at mandatory check stations throughout eastern Washington for presence of Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS). Coordinated signage for check stations and towed and deployed electric reader board. Communicated with boat owners about ways to prevent spread of AIS and handled procedure for dealing with contaminated boats when necessary. Assisted with other tasks when needed—data entry, equipment maintenance, moose conflict management, etc.

Researched wolf-livestock nonlethal conflict avoidance tools that livestock producers can implement. Created report and compiled bibliography of 200+ references on nonlethal carnivore-livestock conflict avoidance tools to be added to the IDFG website. Assisted with checking in legally harvested wolf, cougar, etc. at Coeur d’Alene office.

Conducted salmon habitat surveys for the Columbia Habitat and Monitoring Program (CHaMP). Assessed substrate, riparian vegetation, flow, macroinvertebrates, and other stream characteristics for salmon habitat. Operated total station and surveying rod to collect topographic data points and create a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) of streams. Edited survey data in GIS. Assisted with miscellaneous projects including juvenile salmonid pit tagging, creel surveys, chinook and steelhead redd/spawning surveys, and electrofishing. Assisted with wolf monitoring/surveying.

Conducted field interviews with recreational fishers. Identified fish and crab species. Measured fish length and weight using measuring board and scales. Scanned all salmon for coded wire tags (CWT) and collected 300+ snouts with CWT. Entered data into a handheld unit and reported weekly to sampling coordinator. Interacted with charter offices and the public and answered inquiries relating to fishing regulations, local natural resources, CWTs, etc. Handled violations and reported to Oregon State Police. Assessed fishing effort by conducting boat counts.

Compiled baseline information on natural resources for a conservation corridor. Created presentation to educate the public about local natural resources. Analyzed watershed stakeholder interviews to determine an appropriate conservation strategy. Assisted Choose Clean Water Coalition staff with website and outreach to 200+ member organizations.

Evaluated/graded student projects and assisted students with assignments. Assisted with recording grades, set up audiovisual equipment, greeted guest speakers, assisted with administrative tasks.

Developed management plans for two preserves outlining key stewardship actions; created a 5-year action plan. Recorded priority management areas using GPS and GIS. Accompanied staff on site visits for baseline documentation reporting.

Managed several lung cancer genetic studies. Supervised cancer research team of five and coordinated efforts to ensure research goals and requirements were met.
