A new role for the company, focused on services related to workforce collaboration and productivity. Functions included web services for supporting the company’s global internet presence and the intranet portal; globalization of a standard desktop as a precursor for the roll out of the SAP ERP; meeting, messaging & mobility technologies; global service desk; and global identity & access services. Launched a successful redesign of the company’s global web site and implemented SiteCore web content management system to facilitate business maintenance of content. Initiated project to consolidate five Active Directory instances and five Exchange instances into one. Fulfilled the role of IT Business Partner to various business functions. Responsible for $15 million budget and 20 employees.

As an expatriate based in Paris, France, provided leadership for the information technology organization serving Univar’s business units in Europe, the Middle East & Africa. Worked to centralize the 50+ IT staff and mobilize them toward a common pan-EMEA governance structure. Rolled out Salesforce.com and supported roll out of new SAP ERP system. Initiated ITIL-based approaches to the work, centralized service desk using Service Now SaaS, an enhanced focus on customer service, common systems, procurement and IT provisioning strategies. Responsible for $25 million budget and 50+ employees working out of 10 countries.

Provided leadership for the teams supporting servers, storage, and operating systems, databases, production change management, data center operations, data security, WAN/LAN and voice systems, PC support, help desk, and IT finance, procurement & vendor management. Managed the integration of several acquisitions. Responsible for $15.4 million budget and 45+ employees.

Built UNIVAR’s first data management function, providing leadership for databases and data administration, data security, business intelligence and decision support. Oversaw design and development of UNIVAR’s first data warehouse system using Oracle RDBMS and Business Objects as foundational technologies. Responsible for $6.4 million budget and 20 employees.

Created UNIVAR’s first data security function in conjunction with the roll out of a new ERP system after a merger with a significant competitor. Grew the function to cover security of operating and application systems and data across four computing platforms – IBM ESA/390, IBM AS/400, IBM AIX Unix and Microsoft Windows servers and personal computers. Established security policies relating to system access. Established a security awareness campaign to educate end users. Responsible for $1.1 million budget and two employees.
