Technical Writer And EditorBixal Mar 2014 - Jul 2016TelecommuteI wore many hats at Bixal. After editing sections of a fifteen-module online certification course for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), I wrote Bixal's first employee handbook, 25 pages; developed the company's past performance reviews for its website; helped the owner write proposals for government contracts; and worked on a team to create Bixal's internal project templates.Alongside internal projects, I helped oversee intranet content mapping for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Office of Inspector General (HUD OIG); created a 52-page HUD OIG site manager's manual for HUD OIG's SharePoint 2013 intranet; and edited portions of Bixal's technical documentation for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). -

Metro AreaDuring its two-month heavy seasons in 2014 and 2015, Open Government Partnership (OGP) hired me to edit nine country reports and write four report executive summaries. In 2014 I edited seven reports of fifty-plus pages (Bulgaria, Estonia, Greece, Israel, Macedonia, Slovakia, and Ukraine) for the OGP biennial reviews, and I wrote four report executive summaries (Bulgaria, Greece, Israel, and Jordan). Check out my heavy edit/rewrite requested for the Greece report here: http://mason.gmu.edu/~gmethot/375/Final%20Project/editing.html.In 2015 I edited Finland's and Ghana's biennial reports. -
EditorDiplomatic Language Services Jun 2013 - Nov 2013I edited and formatted language lessons for a Naval Special Warfare (NSW) language-training contract, ensuring copy cleanness, instructional accuracy, and lesson usability: I revised language for clarity and conciseness; flagged and fixed content errors to ensure andragogical soundness; and formatted tables, grammar boxes, maps, and other aids for visual appeal and consistency. During this process, I collaborated weekly with language teams (Arabic, French, Pashto, Persian-Farsi, Spanish, and Tagalog) to assist curriculum developers clarify content, and I coordinated weekly with our four-editor production team to determine and apply methodological approaches for meeting deadlines while maintaining best-editing practices.Translated into numbers, I edited and second edited 10 language lessons a week, each averaging 50 pages with handouts—a total of 500 pages of copy a week. During the finalization stage, I formatted instructor and learner editions for each lesson, equaling approximately 2,500 pages a week. Even with this intense workload, our production team met every weekly deadline. -
Editorial InternThe Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints Sep 2008 - Dec 2008Greater Salt Lake City AreaAs an editorial intern, I edited three (3) speeches for a semiannual worldwide conference, with an auditory audience of over 13 million and a magazine audience of 820,000. I proofread three (3) closed-captioned speeches for an audience of over 13 million. I edited the Temple Square Christmas booklet in InDesign for an audience of 50,000. I edited and source checked two historical scripts—totaling approximately 250 pages—used by docents at the Kirtland Historical Sites in Kirtland, Ohio, and the Historic Johnson Home in Hiram, Ohio. While not my first experience editing, this was my favorite. I fought hard for this extremely competitive internship. A rigorous, six-hour editing test and an interview is what it took to get here. It was worth the fight. The experience I gained here was amazing, and my fellow editors were incredibly knowledgeable. -
Content EditorBrigham Young University Independent Study Nov 2007 - Aug 2008Provo, Utah AreaThis was my most formative editing experience. Here I sharpened my editing skills on online high school courses by substantively editing, copy editing, and source checking eight lessons in Microsoft Word for online Communications 51 and seven lessons for online Biology 41. I created three new cumulative test reviews for online English 53. The best part about this experience? Learning and working with incredible editors who increased my knowledge of the editing art. -
Comanaging EditorAmericana Student Journal Apr 2007 - Apr 2008Provo, UtAt the *Americana* student journal, I organized the review process of thirty paper submissions conducted by nine staff members. I coordinated the distribution of eleven staff-selected papers to various professors for a review.
