I completed my BA and MA simultaneously when I graduated from Arizona State University. I was also first 'cellist with the ASU orchestra and the Phoenix Symphony. After I graduated with an MA in Education, I passed an exam to become a reading specialist. I had admin credentials and was a DO administrator for federal and state special programs. I left education to be in the 2nd group of women hired by XEROX to work in Major Account Sales. The 1st group of women was literally "hired" to try and prove that women could not be successful in high paying executive sales positions. We were very successful! Most of my advance training was at the XEROX International Training Center in Leesburg,Va. I loved sales and was very successful at supporting Fortune 50 accounts, government accounts, colleges/ universities and school districts. Schools at that time did not have copiers or duplicators. I trained and led teams that helped print shops, business accounts, and education sites transition from using printing presses. I received an award for being #1 in sales in the Western Region and #3 in sales in the country. After 20 years, I retired from private industry and took a position as Director of Job Corps in Long Beach, CA. Then I returned to work in public education again. I currently hold eight credentials including K-12 general ed, Special Education and administrative credentials (elem through adult school and college classes). I have enjoyed having the training and experience to work in a variety of assignments. I believe my World of Work background and my experiences (teaching primary through adult education and college classes) has given me a unique perspective to help students survive in today's rapidly changing work force. Having a narrow academic or vocational skill set is no longer adequate for success in today's world of constant change. Show less
